Arcade Fire just blew my mind

If you're on the fringes of Nerd Town, you may have read about Flash vs HTML 5.  Google is supporting a move to HTML 5 and has an experiment page to give Internet users an idea of what can be accomplished  with the new coding.  Their latest experiment is a new video by Arcade Fire.  Whether you're into Canadian  indie alt rock or not the video is worth checking out.  You should use the Chrome browser.

How to survive a B-movie from Ignite Lansing.

7:00 AM / Posted by Andy / comments (0)

Ignite is a great concept.  You get five minutes and 20 slides to talk about whatever you'd like - and to keep you on track, your slides will advance every 15 seconds whether you're ready for the next slide or not.  The topic may be useful and inspiring or a complete waste of time.  This video, from Ignite Lansing, falls into the latter category unless of course you are in the midst of a zombie apocalypse.

Ancient Greece looked like a comic book?

7:00 AM / Posted by Andy / comments (0)

When I was a student, I loved art history courses, in particular Ancient Greece. In my imagination, I can see myself 2000 years ago walking in the bright Mediterranean sun reflecting off magnificent white marble sculptures and buildings. According to this article, that world may have never existed, at least as I had imagined it.

Sooooo, every road and parking lot in the US would be heated to melt snow and ice, would project information on its surface, would empty our landfills, and would generate enough electricity to make us energy independent.  I'm listening . . .

The great nerd musical

9:33 AM / Posted by Andy / comments (0)

It isn't new but it's surprising to me how few people have seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog.   It stars Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion (from Serenity), Felicia Day (from the web-series The Guild), and it was directed by Joss Whedon (if you don't know who he is you have no nerd cred.)  You can buy the musical on iTunes or Amazon but a low-res version is available on YouTube.   If you have a Netflix account, you can stream the high-res version on your computer (or if you're a true nerd you video game system, iPad, or smartphone.
